English illustrator (1792-1878)

Biography:


George Cruikshank was born in Bloomsbury in 1792. Thanks to his drawings on the English everyday-life, he is considered to be one of the best illustrators that Britain has produced. Between 1835 and 1853 he published several calendars, until he managed to publish his own George Cruikshank's Magazine. He is also one of Charles Dickens' main illustrators.
Cruiskshank was one of the first artists to depict lifelike characters. From 1853 on he wrote his Fairy Library, a very successful series of traditional tales. He is a forerunner of illustrating books for young English people.
