BERNADETTE

English illustrator (1942)

Biography:

Bernadette Watts is a draughtswoman, litographist and illustrator. She sais that she came to illustrate children's books after reading Janosch's illustrated books. Afterwards, her personnal style has mixed sophistication in the scenery and naivety in the characters. Bernadette offers the children her versions of Hans Christian Andersen's, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's and Esope's tales. Her publishing houses (Nord-Sud in Switzerland and Andersen Press in UK) say that Bernadette is one of the artist who could make a living by her illustrations, being them so famous and successful.
