In short:

Robert Fitz-Ooth was going to marry Matilda Gitzwater, Earl Arlongford's beautiful daughter. But the marriage could not be celebrated because some soldiers, following wicked Prince John's orders, swept into the chapel and declared Robert outlawed. Robert manages to run away with his friends and settles down in Sherwood, thus becoming Robin Hood. Matilda, kept in the castle by her father, escapes to join her fiancé together with her confessor, Friar Tuck.
Meanwhile, Prince John, who is in love with Matilda, tries to find her and burns down her father's castle. After some adventures in Sherwood, Robin Hood and his friends met a strange knight: King Richard, coming back from Holy Land. He gives their official status back to the outlaws and finally Robin can marry matilda.
