In short:
Its is a first-person narration, in 14 tales, with a preface where the narrator explains his reasons to buy the mill.
Tired of the hectic life in Paris, the narrator retreats to Provence. He observes the life of the farmers, meets different people and hears their stories. Some of them are quite well-known still nowadays:
"The Discovery of Maître Cornille Secret" is the story of a miller who struggles against modern steam mills and pretends to work.
"Mr. Seguin's Goat" is the story of a goat who ends up being eaten by a wolf.
"Pope's mule" is the story of a mule who takes vengeance on a man who illtreated her seven years ago.
"Father Gauxer's elixir" is the story of a priest who meets all his congregation in Hell.
