The Romans have taken over all of Gaul except for one little village, the villaige of the hero Asterix. This is his first adventure: when the Romans camped in Petibonum discover that a magic potion keeps the Gauls invincible, they capture Panoramix (Getafix) to try and get the secret formula.

The original English edition is translated by Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge. Most of their translations are also available on the American market, except for about five books that were translated by Robert Steven Caron.
