Biography:

John Reginald Reuel Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa, in 1892. He goes bacj to England after his father's death in 1896. He studied at Birmingham and Oxford, but his studies are broken off because of war. in 1920 he attended Leeds University. He moves to Oxford where he teaches English language and culture. He specialized in Medieval textes and he published two books on classic philology.
From 1936 on, he devotes himself to a more personal medieval mythology, which would bring about his first novel The Hobbit. It is a book for young readers and he himself illustrated the first edition. From then on, the writer was caught by this myth: for 14 years, he worked on the creation of a new universe, published in book form under the name of The Lord of the Rings (1953-1955). This book was meant for an adult readership and it became a best-seller. Now-a-days The Lord of the Rings, a kind of epic where different parallel worlds mix, has become a worshiping novel.
