HANS AUGUSTO REY
American author and illustrator (1898-)
Biography:
Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hambourg in 1898. After the war, while he was studying medecine at the university, he earned a living by drawing poster for the circus. He has lived in Rio de Janeiro and in Paris, where Gallimard published his first book Cecile G and the 9 monkeys.
In 1940, in New York, he and his wife Margaret soon found a publisher for their first Curious George book, which gain immidiate recognition and success. In all, the couple has written more than 20 books for children.
