BEATRIX POTTER

English author and illustrator (1866-1943)

Biography:

Beatrix Potter was born in South Kensington, London, in 1866. Her family was considered to be part of the wealthy burgoisie of that time. She began painting landscapes in the Lake District, where she used to spent some days with her family.
In 1893 Potter wrote a letter to a young friend, Noël Moore, which was illustrated with drawings of animals and contained the first version of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, her most successful book for children. In all, she published 23 original Peter Rabbit Books.
The first decade of the 20th century was Potter's most productive period. Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck, Tom Kitten, and Pigling Bland are perhaps the best known characters from her nursery tales.
She died in Sawrey (Lancashire) in 1943 and she will always be remembered as one children's favourite author.
