Biography:
Astrid Lindgren was born on 14th November 1907 in Nas, Sweden. Her works reveal a still living tradition of children literature in her country, where myths and tales are part of her personal universe. She wrote her first story, Britt-Mari Opens Her Heart in 1944. Then she started to write seriously and produced a book for girls Britt-Marie unburdens her heart, Noisy Village, Kerstin and I, Bill Bearson and Pippi Longstocking on board. The series of Pippi Longstocking, which first appeared in 1945, gave her an immediate success worldwide, since you can find her books in 76 different languages. Pippi is an orphan adventurous girl, often considered as a king, educated witjout social constraints and free to do whatever she pleases.
Astrid has managed to reproduce the world of children, narrating both painful and fantastic experiences. Astrid Lindgren is without competition the most read Swedish writer both in Sweden and abroad.
