Biography:
Susan Hill is a novelist, playwright and literary critic. She was born in Scarborough in 1942 and was educated at King's College, London. Her novels, all of which have received considerable attention, include Gentleman and Ladies, A change for the Better, The Albatross and other stories, and Do me a Favour. Her play The Woman in Black has become a stage classic in London. She has been really successful among young readers for the way she protrays their world, their problems and their relation to others.
Her most celebrated books are the following:
I'm the king of the Castle (1970) is the gripping story of two children, Edmunt Hooper and Charles Kingshaw. Susan Hill explores in them human nature and how wicked figures can take control of weaker persons.
In the Springtime of the Year (1974)is the story of a 19-year-old girl called Ruth Bryce and her suffering when she loses a loved person.
