ANTHONY BUCKERIDGE

English author (1912)

Biography:

Anthony Buckeridge was born in London on 20th June 1912. Buckeridge was sent to a boarding school in Sussex from the age of 8 until he reached 18. So like Jennings, his most famous character, Buckeridge was educated at a private boarding school. He soon became a teacher and narrated his own stories to his pupils. The characters of these stories are schoolmates like them.
After the War, Buckeridge wrote stories for radio and television, which became an immediate succes at the BBC. Afterwards, Collins (London) published them in more than 20 volumes, which were soon translated into many different languages. His heroe, called Jennings for the English-speaking readers, became a popular figure in Europe. In France, for instance, it is a well-known character but here called Bennett.
